Don’t let the elements get the best of you and your skin. Do you often spend hours researching just the right products (and no doubt a heap of money too) for your skin and yet you are still battling dry, flaky skin? Whether you inherited the tendency toward dry skin or blame it on or environmental conditions -- like sun exposure or cold, dry air, we have compiled 10 hot tips to help.
10. Hydrate
Drinking enough water during winter months is just as important as it is during the summer. Consuming 6-8 glasses of water a day may benefit your overall health and help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Another way to hydrate your skin is by spending a few minutes a day in your Mr.Steam® Steam Shower
9. Exfoliate
There isn’t anything more unpleasant than dry, itchy skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week helps to remove dead skin cells, stimulate cell growth and soften skin.
8. Moisturize
Using moisturizer on your face and body daily is a must. One of the best ways to take advantage of your moisturizer is to apply it within minutes of showering or steambathing. Also, consider switching to a richer moisturizer, especially for rougher areas, such as your knees, hands and feet.
7. Sun Protection
Sunscreen is just as important on the slopes as it is on the beach. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen daily that contains an SPF of at least 15.
6. A Gentler, Kinder Soap
Use creamy cleansers and mild soaps during colder months. Both will be gentler and less drying to your skin. Masks, such as those made from mud, are very beneficial for detoxifying and moisturizing your skin. In fact, steam may actually enhance the effectiveness of your favorite mud mask.
5. Turn Off the Hair Dryer
Avoid frizzy hair by towel drying your hair and limiting the use of your hair dryer. You can even treat parched hair to a warm towel by gently heating it with a Mr.Steam© towel warmer. It also is helpful to switch to a rich, moisturizing conditioner.
4. Pucker Up
Protect your lips from the cold. Avoid chapped lips by brushing them gently with a toothbrush to remove dead skin, and keep them moist throughout the day with a heavy lip balm.
3. Dress For Success
Make sure to wear appropriate clothing to protect your body from extreme temperatures. Dress in layers so that you don’t get too hot when indoors. Perspiration can irritate dry skin problems so it is important to dress appropriately in the warmer summer months.
2. Humidify Your Home
Use a humidifier in your home. A humidifier can counteract the effects of dry heat on your skin and in your nasal passages. Twenty minutes a day in a Mr.Steam© steam shower may also aid in hydrating your entire body.
1. Hydrate!
Yes, hydration is so important that it bears repeating. Hydrate from the inside out and outside in. Drink adequate amounts of water and make Steamtherapy© by Mr.Steam a part of your daily routine. Like a humidifier for your shower, steambathing can help your skin: it opens the pores and pulls out impurities and toxins while replenishing moisture to the skin.
